THE US banking group J.R Morgan and Company Inc reported profits of $439 million (£274 million) in the first quarter this year, a surge of 72 per cent over the same period in 1995.
Revenues totalled $1.74 billion in the first quarter of 1996, up 25 per cent from $1.388 billion a year earlier.
