The Irish Aviation Authority, which regulates the aviation industry and provides air traffic control services, has reported a 13.9 per cent increase in pre-tax profits to £6 million (#7.6 million) for 1998. The company's turnover increased by 4.8 per cent to £58.5 million (#74.3 million) with the majority of the growth coming from increasing flight traffic. Some 64 per cent of the authority's turnover came from navigations services provided to aircraft that did not land in the Republic but passed through Irish airspace.
