Apple reaches 1m mark in iPhones sales

Apple announced it has sold one million iPhones since the combined music player, phone and internet access device was launched in the US on June 29th.

"One million iPhones in 74 days - it took almost two years to achieve this milestone with iPod," said Steve Jobs, Apple's chief executive. Mr Jobs has previously said the company hopes to sell 10 million iPhones by the end of 2008. Last week the company slashed the price of the iPhone from $599 (€434) to $399.

Vislink wins three major US orders

Vislink, the Dublin- and London-listed video and communications technology group, has won three significant orders from US security and law enforcement organisations, worth a combined total of $3.2 million (€2.3 million). Vislink chief executive Ian Scott-Gall said the contracts were recognition of Vislink's capability in the security sector, and that the company is continuing to gain market share in these sectors in the US.

Prem Group to provide internet

The Prem Group is to provide free wireless internet access at all of its hotel properties in Ireland, the UK and Belgium, having signed a deal with Dublin-based Free-hotspot.com.

Prem Group, the hotel management business of property developer Paddy Kelly, operates a number of different hotel brands, including Days Hotel, Ramada, Golden Tulip and Tulip Inn.

ICS's Campus Oil contract complete

ICS Computing has completed a €1.5 million contract to provide an accounting software system to oil importer and distributor Campus Oil, which is part of the Stafford Group. The system will be managed and hosted in the ICS data centre in Belfast and will support Campus Oil's Dublin head office and 13 distribution centres around the country.

Minco says major zinc find likely

Dublin-based metals explorer Minco said yesterday the latest results from ongoing drilling at Pallas Green in Co Limerick confirm the company's belief that it is on the verge of a major zinc discovery.

In a statement to the stock exchange, Minco, which is listed on London's AIM, said it has intersected significant grades and widths of zinc and lead in two holes at the Tobermalug prospect, which forms part of the Pallas Green joint venture with Xstrata Zinc.

Fyffes buys back another 1m shares

Fruit group Fyffes has bought back a further one million of its own shares at a cost of €820,000. This follows the purchase of one million units last Thursday.
