HUSH Puppies, the casual suede shoe company synonymous with the British Chancellor of the Exchequer, Mr Kenneth Clarke, has gained a new owner. Sears, the retail group best known for its luxury London department store Selfridges, has continued the revamp of its shoe shops business with the sale of Hush Puppies to the sportswear shop group, Stylo. The company said it had sold 119 Hush Puppies outlets to Stylo, Britain's third largest specialist show retailer with the Barratts, Bacon and Stylo Instep chains, for £19.2 million sterling. Sears also sold the Hush Puppies wholesale business to Wolverine Worldwide Inc of America for £3.8 million. Sears said it would make a £500,000 profit on the deals.
