The Guinness annual report showed the company made a once off contribution of £31 million sterling to the Guinness Ireland pension fund last year to eliminate a deficit in the scheme. According to the report, the Irish pension fund showed a deficit of £36 million at the end of 1994, after actuarial valuations were carried out.
To eliminate the shortfall, Guinness made contributions to the fund in excess of the minimum recommended by actuaries and made the special once off contribution of £31 million to the fund last December.
