A new website will enable Irish businesses to access Government services - from funding and public procurement information to downloadable Revenue forms - from a single point of access.

Launched yesterday by the Tβnaiste and Minister for Enterprise, Trade and Employment, Ms Harney, the BASIS (Business Access to State Information and Services) website is an attempt to make it easier for business and industry to interact with Government departments and agencies.

"The speedier access to crucial information is an invaluable tool to business," said Ms Harney.

A large number of Government services and information sources are already available over the internet, which recently led the European Commission to rank the Republic first among EU nations for its success in shifting Government into online mode.

The BASIS site "offers a cross-agency view of all services available from the public sector, from a single point of access", said Department of Enterprise, Trade and Employment spokesman Mr Niall Monks.

The site has a series of sections listing agencies and services of use to a business at various points in its life cycle, such as start-up issues, employment and taxation matters. Also featured is a county-by-county search facility to find local services, a download bank for the most commonly used Government forms, and a news feed on business topics.
