US giant General Electric, with businesses ranging from aerospace to broadcasting, yesterday posted a 16 per cent jump in first-quarter profits on record revenue driven by its industrial operations. The quarter was boosted by gains in its power systems and aircraft segments, offsetting weaker broadcasting and appliances that suffered from a slowing US economy.
