TECH SHORTS:In response to the growing popularity of using social networking sites on mobiles, Meteor has introduced limited free internet access for its pre-pay customers.
Customers on its new “Smart Plans” can get 250MB of free browsing a month – which the network says equates to 10,240 mobile web pages, 190 music downloads or reading 4,250 e-mails.
The offer is available for pre-pay customers until July 31st. To avail of it, customers must ensure they top up their account by at least €20 every month. They also have to send a free text to opt in to the service.

Ireland must consider nuclear power, according to Dr Bertrand Barré, scientific adviser to French energy company Areva Group who was speaking at the announcement of the Engineers Ireland Annual Conference 2010 which will take place at the Silver Springs Hotel in Cork on April 22nd and 23rd.
Speakers at the conference will include former Intel chief executive Dr Craig Barrett and John Mullins, chief executive of Bord Gáis.
Clarification: Enterprise Ireland
Enterprise Ireland has asked us to clarify details of its Propel initiative to support 12 firms with high growth potential in the technology or life sciences sector.
The maximum financial support available from Enterprise Ireland for each of the winning firms is actually €15,000 and not €150,000 as stated in the article on these pages last week.
The closing date for applying to Propel is April 23rd.
