Jurys has eight hotels and nine inns in 12 cities in Ireland and Britain, with 3,125 bedrooms. Its Irish hotels are in Dublin, Cork, Limerick and Waterford. The inns are in Dublin, Galway, Cork, Limerick and Belfast. In Britain, it has hotels in London, Bristol, Glasgow and Cardiff with inns in Edinburgh, London and Manchester.

The group is listed on the Irish and London Stock Exchanges with a market capitalisation of €368.5 million (£290.4 million) before the deal was announced. Its latest results showed pre-tax profits of €17 million (£13.4 million) for the six months to the end of October.

The Doyle Hotel Group is the largest Irish privately-owned hotel company. It has seven hotels in Dublin, including the five-star Westbury and the Berkeley Court hotels, three hotels in Washington DC and a hotel in London's West End.

Thornhill Inc, which owns the group, is in turn owned by Mrs Margaret Doyle and her daughters Bernadette, Eileen and Ann.

Doyle Hotel Group acquired the shareholdings of David Doyle in January while those of his brother, Michael, were acquired some time earlier.

Results for the six months to July 31st, 1998 show operating profits of £8.7 million. These results do not include any contribution from the Doyle Washington Hotel, which was opened in January 1999.
