Esat Telecom is upping its presence in the sponsorship stakes. It has now decided to go for gold and become an official sponsor of the Irish Olympic Team for the Sydney 2000 Olympic games. It is understood the sponsorship figure is approaching £100,000.
Announcing the sponsorship earlier this week, the president of the Irish Olympic Council Pat Hickey was unstinting in his praise: "It is fitting that such a vibrant competitive young company as Esat Telecom should lend its support to the Irish team in such a positive way."
He added that Esat's involvement reaffirms "the importance of corporate sponsorship to the success of Irish athletes both at home and abroad."
Hopefully, Esat will have better luck than the Irish Permanent did with the Irish rugby team.
