The Tanaiste and Minister for Enterprise, Trade and Employment, Ms Harney, has announced the winners of the Better Environment Awards for Industry 1998. The awards were sponsored by Forbairt and aim to encourage innovative environmental practices and technologies. The winners are: Managing for Sustainable Development Award; NEC Semiconductors Ireland, Ballivor, Co Meath: Cleaner Technologies Award; Schering-Plough (Avondale), Rathdrum, Co Wicklow: Recovery of Waste Award; Henkel Ireland, Little Island, Cork.
Two companies were highly commended: Intel Ireland, in the managing for sustainable development category, and Roche Ireland, in the cleaner technologies category.
