AROUND 25,000 commercial and industrial properties in the Dublin City Council rating authority area are to be revalued under a new Valuation Order signed last week.

This is part of the national programme to revalue all commercial property in Ireland, which began in the South Dublin County Council area and continued in the Fingal and Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown county council areas. The new list will be published in 2013. The new list for the city will be published in 2013. The purpose of revaluation is to bring more equity, fairness and transparency into the rating system. Following revaluation, there should be a much closer and uniform relationship between current annual rental values, which have dropped significantly recently, and their commercial rates liability.
