€2m for motor showrooms

The former motor showrooms and petrol filling station operated by Chapman Motors in Kildare town is for sale at €2 million through CB Richard Ellis.

The property of 0.53 hectares (1.3 acres) is along the busy N7 Dublin road, 1.9kms from the centre of Kildare town and adjacent to the M7. The showrooms and offices extend to 1,523sq m (16,393sq ft) while the filling station continues to trade.

Part of the site is zoned for residential use while the remainder has a mixed-use residential/commercial zoning.

Wesley Rothwell of CBRE says the property offers an excellent development opportunity, particularly for a retailer looking to attract a high level of passing traffic.

Clinic for Wicklow Street

Businessman Paul McGlade has acquired the lease of 24 Wicklow Street, Dublin 2, for a new business. Optilase Clinics is to specialise in “high end laser treatment and optical wear”, according Browne Corrigan chartered surveyors.

The shop, which up to recently was occupied by Ríanóir Jewellers, has a retail floor area of 46.4sq m (500sq ft) and the same area in the basement. The passing rent is €62,000. Joe O’Donoghue of the letting agent said that, despite negative comments about the retail market, they had 30 enquiries about the shop which originally housed the Our Boys school uniform business.

Clonmel M&S opens tomorrow

UK multiple Marks & Spencer is to start trading tomorrow in the first phase of the Showgrounds shopping centre in Clonmel which is three months ahead of schedule.

The 12,077sq m (120,000sq ft) centre will have two further anchor stores of 2,728sq m (29,364sq ft) and 3,251sq m (34,993sq ft) in the second phase as well as four units of 929sq m (10,000sq ft) each. The complex will also include a nine-screen cinema and a 350-seat theatre as well as a food court.
