EAST POINT Business Park in the Dublin docklands has been chosen as the first business complex to be linked up to a new telecommunications cable running directly to the UK.

East Point will also be the landing point for the high capacity fibre-optic cable which will have eight times more capacity than any other available cable in Ireland. Businesses will have the option of either buying a dedicated 32 gigabite wavelength line or leasing a managed capacity of up to 10 gigs.

Matt Gallagher of East Point Business Park said they are particularly happy that East Point had been selected as the landing point for the CeltixConnect cable due to their key location at the edge of the IFSC. The new cable would help position Ireland well in attracting digital media and other technology companies which were so vital in the context of fostering the smart economy. With some of the best known ICT companies, including Cisco and Oracle, already based at East Point the new connection would provide existing and future tenants with the opportunity to access one of the most advanced global telecommunications systems.
