US software company Engine Yard will become neighbours with Google when it moves into its new premises in the south docklands, writes JACK FAGAN

DUBLIN’S TECHNOLOGY hub in the south docklands continues to expand. The latest arrival is the San Francisco software company Engine Yard which has leased 622sq m (6,700sq ft) of office space at The Warehouse on Barrow Street, next to Google’s Europlex.

Engine Yard joins forces with Orchestra to build and run cloud-based applications efficiently and cost effectively. It has taken a five-year lease on 622sq m (6,700sq ft) at the former Treasury Holdings headquarters at a rent of €215 per sq m (€20 per sq ft) and is expected to employ up to 30 people in the coming months.

The move comes within weeks of the arrival in the same Warehouse building of Dogpatch Labs, which is to provide creative space for entrepreneurs to connect and share ideas and experiences to get new companies up and running. Dogpatch has taken a four-year lease on 557sq m (6,000sq ft) and will be providing free working space to early-stage companies for up to six months in the belief that locating amongst peer companies creates a more productive environment.

Niall Kavanagh of Treasury said Barrow Street was quickly becoming an important technology hub for the city, with a number of silicon valley companies locating there. He said the growing demand for their commercial property suggested some level of recovery was on the way. Meanwhile, Treasury has leased a Georgian office building at 99 St Stephen’s Green to a London-based college for a period of 10 years. AA Hamilton College has agreed a rent of €215 per sq m (€20 per sq ft) for the 325sq m (3,500sq ft) building which is close to the Treasury-owned KPMG headquarters at the junction of St Stephen’s Green and Harcourt Street.
