Retail MarketJohnston Court, the €70 million shopping centre in Sligo, is to open for business for the first time tomorrow.

The new facility, designed by architects Douglas Wallace, connects the town's main shopping street (O'Connell Street) to a new public square. The 13,935sq m (150,000sq ft) development is the first part of Sligo Borough Council's master plan for urban renewal of the town centre. It will be followed by urban renewal schemes by Tesco and Dunnes Stores.

Developed by Ray and Eileen Monaghan's Rendl Properties, the shopping centre has a six-metre glazed roof with double height entrances. A number of listed buildings have been incorporated into the scheme.

The developers hope that the centre will give a boost to local shopping while attracting additional shoppers and tourists into the town centre. The shopping centre will have 10,279sq m (110,000sq ft) of retail space on two levels incorporating 28 two-storey shops and a juice bar, coffee shop and restaurant.
