THIS WEEK gets off to a relatively quiet start internationally, with markets closed in both the UK and US today. At home, however, attention will centre on the beleaguered Anglo Irish Bank. First-half results from the nationalised bank, likely to be published on Thursday, are expected to be very poor.

Economic data is fairly thin on the ground on the domestic front, although trade figures due out later in the week will no doubt be carefully scrutinised for any glimmers of hope that the economy may be close to bottoming out.

MONDAY

UK US bank holiday – markets closed.
