An industry funded public information campaign should be mounted to discourage members of the public from investing cash sums with individuals or companies whose status is unclear according to the Professional Insurance Brokers Association. Investors should be particularly wary if they are offered over generous returns, according to PIBA, a representative body for the insurance broking industry.

PIBA has also supported the immediate establishment of a single regulatory authority to cover financial services, an issue currently under review by a committee appointed by the Tanaiste, Ms Harney.
