Independent News & Media has appointed the former Labour leader in the House of Lords, Baroness Jay, to its UK board. Baroness Jay was recently on the shortlist for the chairmanship of the BBC.

She will join a board which includes the defeated candidate for the Conservative Party leadership, Mr Kenneth Clarke, and former Liberal Democrat leader, Lord Ashdown.
