In their own words: Kevin Kelleher of Ostoform

AIB Start-up Academy finalist, and co-founder of Ostoform, Kevin Kelleher talks about their lightbulb moment, their target audience and how Ostoform solves a problem

Kevin Kelleher of Ostoform tells the story of his startup:

“My co-Founder Rhona Hunt and I did a program called BioInnovate in a clinical environment looking to find problems that we could potentially solve. The area of skin complications for people with ileostomies kept coming up as we spoke to clinicians, and we started brainstorming solutions.

“Often, people suffer from skin complications as a result of output from their stoma leaking onto their skin. We developed a solution and did some patient studies in the University of Limerick. The patient feedback and clinical outcomes were very encouraging, so Ostoform was set up.

“Our device prevents the output from the ileostomy leaking onto the patient’s skin, keeping the patient’s skin healthy and giving the patient confidence. Patients have, on average, demonstrated an improvement in their skin condition and feedback from both clinicians and patients has been very positive."
