The Institute of Chartered Accountants in Ireland has welcomed the Government's move to establish a working committee on company law enforcement, writes Sean Mac Carthaigh. The institute's president, Mr Pierce Kent, said there was a perception on the part of some people that compliance with company law was an option rather than a necessity.
"Company law abuses are not a product of incomplete or inadequate company law. We have a very thorough company law code," Mr Pierce said. "We have not had enough focus on the enforcement of that law."
The Tanaiste, Ms Harney, established the working group earlier this week under the chairmanship of Mr Michael McDowell , SC.
