FORTY new jobs are to be created over the next 15 months in the town of Tipperary, the Minister for Enterprise and Employment, Mr Bruton, announced yesterday.

Continental Promotion Group is in the final stages of negotiations with IDA Ireland to set up a "data entry and promotional fulfilment" operation.

The new business will be located in the former Mass Mutual building and is already recruiting its first 21 employees.

The company processes consumer promotions involving coupons, whereby a consumer purchasing a product with such a coupon, sends it off and is issued with a cheque for the requisite amount.

Disney, Maxtor, Microsoft and Nestle are listed among the clients of the Continental Promotion Group. The Tipperary centre will initially handle the overflow from the company's US operation but a later move involving European projects should make for a further 19 jobs next year.

In Northern Ireland, some 43 jobs are expected to result from an investment by a US company. The company, Colorite Polymers, a division of PureTec International Inc, is to invest £5.5 million sterling to establish a plant at Poleglass, west Belfast.

The jobs will be created over the next four years. The company will get a grant of £1.2 million sterling from the IDB.
