No, John Carney, director of Once, has not made another film since his much-anticipiated Can a Song Save Your Life? That musical dramedy has, after being picked up by the Weinstein team, gone through a retitling. It was a bit of a mouthful, I suppose. At any rate, the movie now journeys out as Begin Again. Swallow hard at the following news: it has been a full decade since Once delighted the world and won an Oscar for best song. Since then, the film has been transformed into a musical and has bedded down as a Dublin classic.

So, it’s taken a while for John to release a full-throtlle follow-up. He hasn’t been slacking, mind. There have been two low-budget features: underestimated, chaotic space comedy Zonad and unsettling spook story The Rafters. But Begin Again (as we now know to call it) looks like his crack at the big time. You certainly can’t help but be impressed at the cast.

Keira Knightley stars alongside Mark Ruffalo, Hailee Steinfeld, Adam Levine, Cee Lo Green and Catherine Keener in the story of a young woman who falls into the music business after separating from her long-term partner. Much of the picture was shot on location in New York and, if this trailer is any guide, it makes the best of those pretty streets, brownstones and squares. The film got pretty strong reviews when it premiered at Sundance and will be with us some time in the Autumn. Until then, enjoy this rather lovely snippet.
