No it’s not the big MCD announcement, but another festival for the summer listings, Groove, which will take place at Kilruddery Estate in Wicklow on the 6th and 7th of July.

The headliners are James Morrison and Imelda May, the knock off point is 10.30pm, Whelans are programming the second stage and Damien Dempsey is also playing. There will be all the things that you now expect from the suburban festival aesthetic; stuff for kids to do, a food market, a chill out area by a lily pond, a stately home, a theatre and a ‘diversity tent’, none of which exactly screams RAVE, so you would imagine Groove are going for an older, more sedate crowd within the catchment area of south Dublin, Wicklow and beyond – the people who can’t get babysitters for Electric Picnic, for whom Body & Soul is a bit too ‘out there’, and who kind of miss bopping around the place at the Festival of World Cultures in Dun Laoghaire.

Tickets are pricey enough, €59 per day and €99 for a weekend pass, especially considering there’s no camping, although the festival has partnered with some hotels. It’s a tough market to crack, so best of luck to them.

Putting the gig on is Cable Music, which in their own words is “an integrated music company based in Dublin.”
