Here’s Penn Badgely in Greetings From Tim Buckley, an upcoming biopic that charts the run-up to the landmark 1991 Tim Buckley tribute concert in St. Ann’s Church. Thanks to Penn’s inclusion and the TV-ish way in which it’s shot (well, the trailer anywhoo), it actually looks like an episode of Gossip Girl. Or possibly The O.C., at a push. In random casting news, Kate Nash is in it. As a bitchy fan of both of the Buckleys, I shall reserve judgement until I’ve seen the whole thing…

Badgely talks about the movie here and does a passable Buckley impression singing ‘Lilac Wine’ here.

Meanwhile, Ridley’s son Jake Scott (a mostly music video director – although he has two features to his name – but in music video land, he made ‘Disarm’, ‘Insane In The Brain’, ‘Everybody Hurts’ and loads more) is directing what was the Untitled Jeff Buckley Project and is now Mystery White Boy slated for 2013 with Reeve Carney who looks a little more like Jeff Buckley than Badgely. John Patrick Amedori will play Michael Tighe. Amedori was ALSO in Gossip Girl, adding to weird Gossip Girl-Buckley web of connections. Ryan Jaffe who wrote the screenplay for The Rocker is on script duties. According to the Rolling Stone last year, it’s Scott’s film which will be based on the David Browne book Dream Brother although I originally thought that was a separate canned Jeff Buckley film project (or something to do with the third film I’ve detailed below? Very confusing.) Anyway, Scott’s film has the blessing of Jeff Buckley’s mother, Mary Guibert along with, crucially, the rights to all of the music they need to use. Scott’s project was originally meant to be produced by Brad Pitt and Jennifer Aniston’s production company but that hit the skids when they did.

And yes, there is the third Buckley film floating around. This one is A Pure Drop by Aussie director Brendan Fletcher and based on a book of the same name by Jeff Apter.
