New Music – Communions, Kaiydo, Hunkpapa
New music to cheer from Copenhagen, Orlando and Armagh
Every week, we highlight a couple of new acts from around the globe who’ve caught our attention. Please feel free to share tips with us or check out all past New Music selections here.
Forthcoming single “Don’t Hold Anything Back” for Fat Possum is one reason why we’re paying attention to Copenhagen band Communions. They’re an act whose woozy, hazy, starry-eyed guitarlines coat the melodies with a quality you’d expect to get from far more experienced groups. Previous tracks like “So Long Sun” were also worthy of attention, but the newbie shows a band taking big, confident steps in terms of craftinge earworms.
Say hello to one of the freshest new rappers on the block. 19 year old Kaiydo hails from Orlando and his handful of tracks to date show off a talented buck with a great flow and, in collaboration with producer Josh December, a strong sense of what it takes to make a track tick. We’re really digging his latest track “Fruit Punch” right now as summer gives way to autumn in these parts.
Four piece alt-rock band from Armagh with a wild, infectious, potentially fascinating edge to their melodies and harmonies. Together since March of this year, a couple of the band were previously in Castlestreet and played in other ventures over the last couple of years. There’s a debut simgle “Lost In the Wild” due in the next few weeks, but the tracks below give a good indication of just where Hunkpapa are coming from right now.
