New music to check out from Enniskillen, Sydney and Los Angeles
Every week, we highlight a couple of new acts from around the globe who’ve caught our attention. Please feel free to share tips with us or check out all past New Music selections here.
Enniskillen native Clara Tracy got the singing bug while living in Paris and swapped a career as a legal eagle for working in a jazz cafe. Now living in Dublin, Tracey’s sound and style is rich and detailed, taking in everything from wonky pop to melancholic bluesy jazz. She’s played festivals like Stoney Woods and Body & Soul already this summer and plays the Electric Picnic with her seven piece band next month.
The Sydney group make a strong case for themselves with debut single “Edge of Town”, a song which stands out on any playlist thanks to Hannah Joy’s striking vocals, great guitar work from Tim Fitz and the tune’s brilliant hook. A band fast making waves at home, they also sound like they’ve the means to be around for some time to come.
Los Angeles-based duo Aaron Kirkbride and Riley McCluskey first started making tunes and putting bands together when they were in college in Philadelphia before reconvening a couple of years later back home on the west coast. On the evidence of the classy, melodic, effortlessly smart Beach Boys-friendly “That’s Not Me”, it’s a pairing who’ve locked in on some songwriting gold.
