New Music – Jimi Tents, Bayonne, Julia Jacklin
A pre-SXSW special with three acts we think will make an impression at the Austin, Texas music festival next week
Every week, we highlight a couple of new acts from around the globe who’ve caught our attention. Please feel free to share tips below or check out all past New Music selections here.
Brooklyn MC Jimi Tents’ debut release “5 O’Clock Shadow” is a moody, thought-provoking showcase of his talents from the heft of his flow to the dexterity of his rhymes and storytelling. Brooklyn has a new boss on the rise, albeit one with an eclectic point of view.
Austin dude Roger Sellers was making music under his own name until he decided to adopt the Bayonne moniker. “Spectrolite” is something special, a timeless blend of electronic derring-do and dashing experimentation. The multi-instrumentalist is signed to Mom+Pop and there’s a debut album “Primitives” due later in 2016.
Born in the Blue Mountains and now based in Sydney, Julia Jacklin was all set to be a social worker until music got in the way. A singer-songwriter with a lovely gentle tone to her voice and a brilliant handle on how to write songs which leave an impression, Jacklin’s debut album “Don’t Let the Kids Win” is set for release later in the year.
