New Music – The Magic Gang, Ruth, Frances Rose
New music to make you smile from Brighton, Kerry/Dublin and New York
Every week, we highlight a couple of new acts from around the globe who’ve caught our attention. Please feel free to share tips below or check out all past New Music selections here.
What Brighton sounds like right now. The four-strong Magic Gang are kings of the geeky indie pop frontier with a strong slew of alt earworms already mited and ready for action. Tracks like “Alright” and “She Won’t Ghost” are meaty indications of their ability to pen a great tune, while “Feeling Better” comes with the best video we’ve seen this year so far to feature some cracking synchronised swimming action. Big up Nial Conlan for the tip.
Kerry born and Dublin based, Ruth Cronin’s new single “Who Are You Looking For?” indicates that we’re dealing with a singer of some potential here. Cronin’s vocals mark and measure the song with distinctive panache and gives its plaintive atmospheric veneer a real splash of emotional soul. One to watch out for as the year progresses.
New York sisters Sarah Frances and Michelle Rose Cagianese have hit the bullseye with new track “Dangerous”, a track where their natural blissful harmonies runs perfectly in tandem with the kind of slinky, classy synth-pop of which great hits are made. The track was on Soundcloud for about a minute so you’ll have to trust us on this. Check out “Lonely” from one of their CMJ 2015 shows instead.
