New talents to check out from Indiana, Sydney and Alberta

Every week, we highlight a couple of new acts from around the globe who’ve caught our attention. Please feel free to share tips below or check out all past New Music selections here.

From South Bend, Indiana, teenage pop singer Devin Murphy sounds like she’s broadcasting from another planet on the striking “You Made Me”. Produced by Stelios Phili (who has worked with A$AP Ferg), it’s a track which showcases both her likeable vocals and strong sense of otherness when it comes to working a hook like she’s a space-age Nicolette channeling her inner Lana Del Rey.

Australia is still knocking out quality new acts and Mansionair are another one to add to the list. From Sydney, the three-piece are currently on a US and European tour with their Goodbye label bosses CHVRCHES which is sure to add to the fanbase for their evervescent, well-structured electropop. Check out their excellent new single “Speak Easy” below or a great version of Future Islands’ “Seasons (Waiting On You)” here.

The Royal Foundry

It was only after they got married in 2013 that Jared and Bethany Salte started making music together as The Royal Foundry so it’s proving to be a long and fruitful honeymoon. From Edmonton, Alberta, the Canadian couple’s folky jams, downhome hooks and strong melodies have produced a string of great songs like “Running Away” below which have attracted attention from radio stations and songwriting competitions. Expect to hear even more from them – and their banjos – in 2016.
