From the paper: a decade in the life of Future Islands
Interview with Future Islands conducted on their recent trip to Ireland
The story of Future Islands is far more complex and a lot more interesting that just an appearance on the Late Show With David Letterman. That and the release of the “Singles” album may have helped the band breakthrough to the mainstream, but there was a lot of water under the bridge before then. The band visited Dublin earlier this month for two sold-out shows at Vicar Street and I sat down with all three band members before the second show to trace the story of the band from a “joke party band” called Art Lord & The Self Portraits via nearly 1,000 gigs to the Future Islands of today, a band dominating Best of 2014 lists left, right and centre.
