You know that the year is flying by when it comes time to talk about Eurosonic again. Regular readers will know that we’re big fans of the annual festival, which showcases new European acts in a cool city in northern Holland, and we’ve been heading there in search of new talent every January for the last few years.

Eurosonic 2014 takes place from January 15 to 18 and the list of the first acts confirmed for the festival is here, a list which includes Bondax, The Vegetable Orchestra and Kate Boy. As always, the folks at 2fm are heavily involved in the festival, as they have been since the very start. The first Irish act to be confirmed are The Strypes, who can expect a bevy of festival bookers, radio programmers, agents, promoters, media folk and your ordinary decent Dutch music fans to check them out in January. Other Irish acts will also be added in the coming weeks.

It’s also worth noting that an appearance at Eurosonic can pay off enormously, thanks to the European Talent Exchange Programme (ETEP). In a nutshell, this ensures that many of the acts who play at Eurosonic go on to play at various European festivals and there are various supports and initiatives available to make sure all involved go home smiling.

Last year, 103 acts from 23 different countries went on to play 324 different ETEP shows after Eurosonic. The big winners were Villagers (11 festival shows on the back of their Eurosonic show in January 2013), Palma Violets (11 shows), Jake Bugg (10 shows), Skip&Die (10 shows), Efterklang (10 shows), AlunaGeorge (nine shows) and Kodaline (nine shows). You’ll find the full list here.
