Other Creatures

Dublin-based trio with a fascinating line in classic indie and alternative pop judging by tracks like “Soft & Sweet” (what Pixies would sound like if they were starting out today) and “Luxembourg” (a bigger tune than the country of the same name). The band support Gangs at Dublin’s Grand Social on Friday night, Leaders of Men at Dublin’s Workman’s Club on October 27 and Little Green Cars at Dublin’s Vicar Street on December 8.

Hugely promising new Dublin act whose Hard Working Class Heroes festival turn at the Workman’s Club was a lesson in infectious noise, driving Kraut-psych and alluring hard-knock grooves. Their “Black Cat” EP is the one to check out until you get a chance to see them live again.

Another impressive act spotted at the Hard Working Class Heroes, Carriages are producer (and found sounds forager) Harry Page and singer-songwriter Aaron Bookless. Live, they’re an impressive coming-together of musical yin and yang with ace harmonies and melodies seeping out of the folky, experimental, weirdbeard pop soundbed.
