As part of the Review of the Year supplement with today’s Irish Times, Ciara Kenny takes a look at the highs and lows of the year of the Gathering. There’s also a gallery of photographs from the year’s events.

The tourism initiative to “welcome home the diaspora” was heavily criticised by some emigrants before it began, but as the year draws to a close, we’d like to hear whether your opinions have changed. Did you attend a Gathering event this year? Do you think it has been a success, or would you still agree with Gabriel Byrne’s initial assessment of it as a “shakedown” of the diaspora “for a few quid”?
