Family sayings

Sir, – As the son of a man who had to leave school at 14 due to economic reasons, I applaud Darragh Geraghty’s “Familect: words only our family understands” (Health + Family, May 21st). My father told me at an early age that I would go to university or I would get his boot up my behind. I was never physically subjected to that but in times of relaxed study I was reminded of “The Boot”. – Yours, etc,
