Zip wire in Lough Key

GO KIDS: This column is reluctant to recommend anything we haven’t already tried

GO KIDS:This column is reluctant to recommend anything we haven't already tried. But now that we've heard that there's a new aerial zip wire course in Lough Key Forest Park in Co Roscommon, it's high on the list of must-do things this summer – simply because a good zip wire course is just about the best fun ever.

This one is the first aerial trail designed and built in Ireland by French specialists Arbre et Aventure. There are five circuits with more than 750m of zip lines featuring the usual elements anyone who has tried a zip wire course in France or Spain will be familiar with, including cargo nets, climbing walls and basejumps.

It should take between two and three hours to complete the course. It’s safe because you are clipped to the wire at all times. The lowest parts are about one metre off the ground, while the highest point is 20m.

There’s a minimum age of seven and a minimum height of one metre. Prices start at €15 for children between seven and 11 years old and family deals are available. Book at 051-858008, zipit.ie.
