Learn to fly-fish: Spring is in the air and what better time to either learn or to hone your skills in the craft of fly-fishing for salmon.

Ballyvolane House is offering an opportunity to learn to fly-fish on the Blackwater with Norman Gillett, a qualified instructor and a member of the Game Angling Instructors' Association. All aspects of modern fly-fishing and spinning techniques are covered, but emphasis is placed on as much practical fishing as possible. Sligo through a lens

A new venture for photographers keen to sharpen their skills has begun in the northwest. Sligo Foto Breaks is a tuition course run by award winning photographer Peter Wilcock from his base in Sligo. Sligo abounds with inspiring locations such as Glencar waterfall, the spectacular Benbulben and the Horseshoe Pass. Barnardos' Little Tibet Trek

The children's charity Barnardos, along with RTÉ's Laura Woods, embarks on the Little Tibet Trek this autumn. Twenty-five people of all ages will have the opportunity to travel to Dharamsala in northern India from October 29th to November 8th. Trek participants will experience the nomadic way of life, setting up camp each night and trekking 65km over five days. The team will face steep trails and will pass through ancient villages with spectacular views towards Tibet. Previous Barnardos treks travelled to Vietnam and South Africa raising a total of €130,000 for vulnerable children in Ireland. Barnardos' target for the Little Tibet Trek is to raise €60,000.
