Twisted Pepper, Dublin, Saturday 10pm €15/€10 01-8734800...

J Rocc has probably been digging in the crates since he came out of the womb. Part of the Stones Throw crew, Rocc has been at the thick of the action in the instrumental hip-hop game for most of his career. He first emerged as a DJ in mid-1980s California, but life took on a very distinct shape when he co-founded the Beat Junkies with a bunch of other West Coast turntable virtuosos.

Since then Rocc has been part of the hip-hop fabric, working with Madlib and the late, great J Dilla on projects such as Jaylib and the Beat Konducta tribute to Dilla. Next on the agenda will be a solo album for Stones Throw.

Aside from Rocc playing on The Stage, you’ve also got a live set from Mano Le Tough in the basement and Discotekken throwing down some class grooves in the Mezz.
