Black Pitts – B Movie Extra album review: a strong punk rock offering from Dublin band

Some musicians and songwriters stick to what they do because they love it, not just because they’re stuck in a rut.

Other people’s expectations often undermine the artist’s true intent and output, which brings us to Black Pitts.

The seeds of this Dublin-based band – fronted and guided by canny musician Ivor Lynch – can be found in proto-punk outfits such as The Stooges and New York Dolls, and across the album’s 13 tracks (most of which stretch no further than a Ramones-friendly 2½ minutes) there is strength of conviction as well as a decision to ease off on stretching the creative envelope.

But that's where perspective comes in again, and we're in no position to undercut what is, to all intents and purposes, as strong a bona fide punk rock record as we've heard in many years. blackpitts.bandcamp.com
