Hole-by-hole guide
Hole 17 - "Half Moon"
Par 4
424 yards

Thomas Bjorn will never need to be reminded of this hole as it was this demanding par four where his hope of winning the 2005 European Open sank when he hit three balls into the water off the tee. The dogleg left which hugs the River Liffey all the way to the green was all more difficult with a new tee some 40yards back, accentuating the moon-shape of the hole. The obvious problem is avoiding the river but bailing out right means hitting your approach from the rough toward the water again. Many will opt for a three-wood or long iron at this one. The green also leans towards the Liffey on the left.
