Niland beats Bogdanovich in Paris
French Open qualifiers: Conor Niland has taken his recent impressive form into the French Open qualifiers to win his first match against Alex Bogdanovich at Roland Garros in Paris today. Compatriot Louk Sorensen was beaten 7-6 6-4 in his match against Argentina’s Jose Acasuso.
Niland, who won the Israel Open nine days ago, beat Britain’s second highest-ranked player 6-4 6-4 to move into the second round of qualifying.
Niland moved to 165th in the world after the Israel win and today’s win is another step up with his left-handed opponent ranked four places ahead of him.
The Irishman will meet either Filippo Volandri of Italy or Germany’s Julian Reister in tomorrow’s second round.
