The 2008 world player of the year had a disappointing campaign by his own lofty standards and will be itching to prove the last six months were merely a blip when he faces the Springboks.

Will need to fend off stiff competition to secure his berth on the wing but there is little doubt that, at his best, Williams has few peers when it comes to crossing the whitewash.

Along with his Ospreys team-mates Tommy Bowe and Lee Byrne, Williams can reflect positively on the opening game although a Test place is by no means assured on this evidence.
