The only member of the current crop to have toured with the Lions in 1997, the veteran Wasps man has impressive handling skills for a lock and immensely powerful.

At 36, there may be concerns over his stamina but Shaw is still going strong and brings a wealth of experience to the tourists.

A handy lineout operator, the 6ft 9in lock is a fine all round player whose brute force will be much needed on the high veldt but on the evidence of his display against the Royal XV he will struggle for Test selection.
