Jamie Roberts
Wales (Cardiff Blues)
Roberts' inclusion in the Lions squad, though not a surprise, happened quite quickly for the Cardiff Blues centre.
Having impressed at club level at fullback, Warren Galtand took a chance and gave him his debut in the centre in 2008. Roberts did not disappoint, wasting little time in acquitting himself and forging a formidably powerful partnership with Tom Shanklin.
With injury denying Shanklin his place in the squad, Roberts will have to adjust quickly again if he is to join Brian O'Driscoll in the Test team. He will face stiff competition from the in-form Riki Flutey.
Strong, direct running impressed against the Royal XV but he will need to up his performance further to nail down the Test jersey.
