Pearses likely to appeal three-year ban

GAA: Dromid Pearses are likely to appeal the three-year provincial and national ban imposed on them by the Central Hearings Committee (CHC) after a hearing on Friday nght.

The Kerry club saw the €2,000 fine recommended by the Central Competitions Control Committee (CCCC) halved to €1,000, but the ban for their part in the ugly scenes that marred the All-Ireland JFC semi-final with Tyrone’s Derrytresk is more damaging to the club.

If it stands they will not be able to represent Kerry if they win anything within the county over the next three years.

"I assume we will be appealing but we have no official recommendation yet,” Pearses chairman Mike Sheehan told the Irish Examiner. "We have to schedule a club meeting. It does seem severe enough."

Three Pearses players also received bans, though none of them will be appealing. Donal O'Sullivan was given a three-month ban, Denis O'Sullivan an eight-week suspension and Colm O'Connor a four-week sanction.

For their part in the brawl at Portlaoise, Derrytresk were given a five-year ban, which they have appealed with GAA’s Central Appeals Committee (CAC).
