On a busy day at Croke Park yesterday the opening tie was an affair fit for the occasion as St Mary’s BNS, Haddington Road battled Scoil Mológa for the Corn Matt Griffin. Despite the efforts of Mológa’s Darragh Uí Néill, who scored 1-7, St Mary’s triumphed 2-8 to 1-7.

Craig McMahon hit 1-4 while Evan Hanney, R Lawlor, Stephan Negru and Craig Kavanagh also shone. Mológa’s Max Svedjar played his heart out at centre back while Louis MacDiarmada was the perfect foil for Conor Ó Maoldúin in the middle of the park.

In the Sciath Austin Finn, St Brigid’s NS Castleknock were defeated by Scoil Lorcáin who were quick off the blocks to win 3-6 to 1-6. Rachel Ní hAirtnéada and Sinead Ní Dhonnchú shone for the winners, while Castleknock’s Mikaela Griffin kicked five points.
