Shamrock Rovers triumph on Tallaght homecoming
Soccer round-up:Shamrock Rovers made a winning start to life in Tallaght as they saw off the challenge of Sligo Rovers 2-1 in front of a sell-out crowd of 3,500 at their new home ground. Gary Twigg earned the honour of being the first man to score at the new stadium when he put Michael O’Neill’s side ahead in the 18th minute.
Local lad Dessie Baker got the second for the home side before Gavin Pears got one back in the 83rd minute but the visitors didn’t do enough to ruin the opening night party.
