Early goals in each half give Longford Town first win of the season

Pat Flynn and Gary Shaw on the mark as Bray remain bottom of the table

Longford scored early in each half to record their first win of the season as Bray, pointless and still without a goal, remain rooted to the foot of the table.

The visitors fell behind to a sloppy goal after just nine minutes. Their failure to deal with a ball in from the right was duly punished as central defender Pat Flynn shot home from close range.

Town’s David O’Sullivan headed over from a Don Cowan cross on 28 minutes before home goalkeeper Paul Hunt kept his side in front with the stop of the half from Graham Kelly.

Bray should have been level right on the blow of the break. A mistake by Longford substitute Willie Tyrell gifted the ball to Luke Gallagher. His crossed picked out the unmarked Peter Durrad who shot wide when he should have scored.

It was a miss Bray would rue as they were 2-0 down five minutes after the interval. Cowan was a constant menace down Bray’s right side and he worked the opening when skipping past Jack Memery to whip the ball to the back post where ex-Bray striker Gary Shaw stabbed home.
