McLaughlin brace does for Derry

Shelbourne 0 Derry City 3:Derry City will meet St Patrick's Athletic in the FAI Cup final after a resounding semi-final replay win over Shelbourne at Tolka Park.

The homeside had chances - Kevin Dawson, Stephen Paisley and Philly Hughes went close in the first half - but it was the visitors he took theirs, through a Stephen McLaughlin brace and a David McDaid goal.

Derry were ahead at the break after McLaughlin neatly converted a cross from the right and he doubled the lead just after the hour with a scorching shot that left Chris Bennion with no chance.

Six minutes later McDaid added the third after the home defence was left expecting an offside flag that was never raised.

Shels, perhaps, deserved better, but Derry and McLaughlin, in particular, kept cool heads when they needed to.
