Irish football receives €1.2m boost for grassroot projects

The FAI Chief Executive John Delaney has welcomed the government funding for six projects nationwide

The Football Association of Ireland has welcomed the government's provision of €1.2 million in funding that will provide for six strategically important football projects across Ireland.

The projects include two SSE Airtricity League grounds in Cork City's Turners Cross, owned by the Munster Football Association and Galway FC's Eamonn Deacy Park, owned by the Galway Football Association.

They also include three club developments at Mayfield FC in Cork as well as Clones Town FC in Monaghan and Westport United FC in Mayo, two clubs which are more than 100 years in existence. The grant will also provide for developments at the Kerry and District League.

FAI Chief Executive John Delaney said that the grant "will provide facilities for players in communities across the country. It will also allow us to complete strategically important projects at club and league grounds in Cork, Mayo, Kerry and Monaghan, all of which are due for completion in 2015."
